MAK and BMWKMS joint event on the Creative Europe program on the occasion of the EU project AbeX

Under the direction of book artist and designer Sven Völker, nine emerging artists from Austria, Romania, and Serbia explore the potential of the artist's book as a medium for creative exchange. By experimenting with different tools and sharing methods of image, text, and material design, the book becomes a vehicle for individual and collaborative creative work. The pop-up exhibition presents the artistic projects of this MAK winter studio, organised as part of the EU project AbeX.

Museum building in the neo-Renaissance style

In a participatory discussion round, we will then discuss the significance of the book as a potential artistic medium for everyone, as well as the role of the museum as a ‘tool box’. What role does the museum play today as a mediator of diverse artistic concepts and tools? What do we mean by ‘museum as a toolbox’ and how can this role be strengthened through collaborative projects and intercultural cooperation across borders and media?
